Bottom up Adaptation Strategies for a Sustainable Europe

ECCA 2017: ‘Our Climate Ready Future’

The 3rd European Climate Change Adaptation Conference (ECCA) 2017, organised by the EU-funded projects IMPRESSIONS, HELIX and RISES-AM, will take place in Glasgow, Scotland (UK), 6 - June 2017.

ECCA 2017 will build upon the achievements of ECCA 2013 in Hamburg and ECCA 2015 in Copenhagen, which emphasised research-policy-practice links and the emerging adaptation services offered by businesses. The conference aims to engage strongly with the people who will deliver action on the ground: local authorities, government departments and agencies, businesses, industry, NGOs and local communities. Objective is to showcase adaptation in action, with a focus on how this is transforming the lives of our people and communities as well as share knowledge, ideas and experience with researchers and policymakers.

Call for Abstracts is now open!

The call for abstracts is open until 30 September 2016.

The organizers invite both session and abstract submissions for the European Climate Change Adaptation conference. Three types of sessions will be organised: Practice, Science-practice, and Science. All abstracts and session proposals should be submitted under one of the broad conference themes: five sectorial themes and eight cross–cutting issues:

Cross-cutting themes:

  1. Evidence for action: data, climate services & communication
  2. Planning ahead: delivering resilience in the face of climate uncertainty
  3. Business and finance: mobilising investment in climate change adaptation and building low carbon, climate resilient economies
  4. Making it happen: organisations, policy, governance, justice & ethics
  5. Working together: co-production of knowledge between science, business, policy, practice and local communities
  6. Adaptation in practice: case studies, monitoring, support tools and guidance
  7. Global challenges: climate adaptation and the UN Sustainable Development Goals
  8. Whole system sustainable solutions: acting across multiple sectors and scales

Sectoral themes:

  1. Urban, energy & infrastructure
  2. Agriculture & forestry
  3. Water security & flooding
  4. Biodiversity, ecosystem services & nature-based solutions
  5. Health & wellbeing

The organisers welcome abstracts from practitioners and scientists that show real-world examples of climate adaptation. Case study abstracts are encouraged to show how their experience can be useful to others, e.g. through identifying lessons learned, providing recommendations on best practice and considering whether the approach could be transferred to other regions or different contexts.  Innovative session formats that maximise audience participation and discussion are encouraged.
