Policy integration and knowledge use in the EU adaptation strategy

This BASE project outcome reviews the policy integration and knowledge use in the EU adaptation strategy at the EU level. An understanding of policy integration and knowledge use in the EU adaptation strategy is essential when one considers its implementation. The effectiveness of the strategy will depend on actions in a wide range of policy areas that do not necessarily have adaptation to climate change among their primary objectives.

BASE common case study approach

This report outlines the shared starting points, research practices and questions to be answered in case studies to ensure comparability of results and their ability to feed into WP6 & WP7. Chapter 2 assesses the state of the art in research and practice of adaptation in seven sectors to fine-tune case studies. Chapter 3 outlines the common understanding adaptation policy, planning and pathways. Chapter 4 establishes a common framework for the assessment of costs, benefits and effectiveness of adaptation measures. Chapter 5 explores participatory and deliberative methods in adaptation.

European Strategy for Adaptation and Climate Change - Portuguese

To coincide with the launch of the EU Climate Adaptation Strategy, FFCUL prepared a press conference event on 29th April 2013. At the event, FFCUL presented the EU strategy and its connection to the BASE project to journalists, climate change experts, representatives from the Portuguese Environmental Agency and local municipalities. Humberto Rosa – Director of Directorate C of DG Climate sent a video for live streaming, presenting the strategy to Portuguese media.

Planning for adaptation to climate change: Guidelines for Municipalities

Based on the experience gained within the European project ACT - Adapting to Climate Change in Time - funded by the European Commission under the LIFE Programme Environmental Policy and Governance, BASE partner ISPRA, in cooperation with the municipalities of Ancona (Italy), Bullas (Spain) and Patras (Greece), has drafted the guidelines Planning for adaptation to climate change: Guidelines for Municipalities.
